Access to the Internet within the Allen Center is limited to authorized
users. Visitors are granted temporary credentials (username and password)
that allow them to connect their portable computers to either the wired
or wireless networks.
The authentication process is relatively painless and requires the use
of a web browser.
-
Make sure your computer is configured to use the DHCP protocol to
obtain an IP address ("obtain an IP address automatically" in Windows-speak).
-
Boot your computer and start your web browser (IE, Mozilla, whatever).
Make sure that your browser has JavaScript enabled and that
popups are allowed; most browsers have JavaScript enabled by default.
-
Use your browser to visit any valid web page;
http://www.cs.washington.edu is a fine place to start.
-
Instead of the web page you have specified, you will instead see the login
screen below. Enter the username and password given to you by your
visit sponsor in the appropriate boxes of the form and click
on the "login" button.
